Phoenix death/thrash metal outfit Cavalera Conspiracy, also known simply as Cavalera, came together in 2007 when Brazilian metal icons and brothers Max Cavalera on vocals and guitar plus Igor Cavalera on drums, both ex-Sepultura, launched the project. Their style channels the punishing blackened thrash of the siblings' primary band while incorporating hardcore punk and groove metal touches. From 2008 through 2017 the group put out four studio albums—Inflikted, Blunt Force Trauma, Pandemonium, and Psychosis—then shortened the moniker before issuing the 2023 re-recording of Sepultura's 1986 debut, Morbid Visions.

The launch of Cavalera Conspiracy ended a decade-long estrangement between the Cavalera siblings, who had established Sepultura together in their native Brazil back in 1984. Completed by guitarist Marc Rizzo of Soulfly and bassist Joe Duplantier of Gojira, the Roadrunner Records debut Inflikted surfaced on March 25, 2008. Cavalera Conspiracy paused briefly while Max returned to Soulfly and Igor focused on Nailbomb and Strife, yet the brothers reconvened in 2009 for a European tour. The next year they reentered the studio to prepare their sophomore effort. In 2011 they delivered the second serving of groove-metal intensity, Blunt Force Trauma, followed in 2014 by the fiercer, grindcore-leaning Pandemonium. Three years afterward came the equally charged Psychosis, which concluded Marc Rizzo's time in the lineup. Functioning now as a duo, the brothers also trimmed their name, releasing the muscular re-recording of Sepultura's classic though decidedly lo-fi 1984 debut album under the Cavalera banner as Morbid Visions in 2023. Later that same year the pair unveiled a re-recording of Sepultura's 1985 EP, Bestial Devastation.
