Born in 1978 in Manchester, Jamaica, West Indies, Cecile issued her debut recording at fifteen. Her opening venture into the business drew scant notice, yet the next single, ‘Beat Of My Heart’, cut alongside Michael ‘Ibo’ Cooper of Third World, brought her to broader attention. Live work on the club and festival circuit followed, highlighted by shows at the Cactus nightclub and a 1998 slot at Reggae Sunsplash that opened doors to further bills supporting Buju Banton, Tanya Stephens and the Monster Shack Crew. Studio seasoning arrived through backing-vocal contributions to Spanner Banner, Norris Man and Christini. Momentum accelerated by 2000 via duet successes with Nads on ‘Silent River’, Mega Banton on ‘Let’s Get It On’ and Saaba Tooth on ‘Girls Fi Get Love’. On her own, she delivered a version of Jennifer Lopez’s ‘If You Had My Love’ that imported the ‘Latino’ rhythm first popularised by Capleton, rekindling dancehall interest. Fresh acclaim took her to Miami, Florida, USA and across Canada, where an appearance at the AT&T Amphitheatre on the Power 106 bill earned strong notices and prompted a return booking at the annual Vermont Reggae Festival. While stateside she made her television bow, joining Beenie Man on the ragga anthem ‘Girls Dem Sugar’ for BET’s Harlem Block Party broadcast, seen globally. Full establishment arrived in 2001 through the enduring tracks ‘Liar’, ‘Wish You Never Lie To Me’, ‘Let Me Know’ and the luminous ‘Changez’, plus the pairing with Mr. Vegas on ‘Get Yuh Tonight’.
