Cende

Power pop infused with emotional intensity defined the brief run of indie rock outfit Cende. Upon finishing studies at Purchase College, guitarist Dave Medina along with Porches drummer Cameron Wisch and LVL UP drummer Greg Rutkin settled into the Brooklyn performance space and residence David Blaine's The Steakhouse. The three musicians connected in 2013 through mutual admiration for garage punk band the Marked Men. Bassist Bernard Casserly (Normal Person) completed the group soon afterward, after which Wisch and Medina took primary songwriting duties and the quartet issued the self-released EP Cende in early 2016. Cende's debut full-length, #1 Hit Single, emerged in May of 2017 via Double Double Whammy with production from Ronnie Stone and additional vocals supplied by Frankie Cosmos. Supporting the album, the band joined (Sandy) Alex G and Japanese Breakfast for shows across the U.S. and Canada, then disclosed in November plans to disband so members could pursue separate endeavors. Two final concerts alongside Vagabon and Radiator Hospital took place in Philadelphia and New York City, closing out the group's history on December 9, 2017 at the Bowery Ballroom.
