Field Mouse, an indie rock outfit with roots in both Brooklyn and Philadelphia, revolves around principal songwriter Rachel Browne. Early shoegaze leanings and the dream pop that defined the quartet’s 2014 debut, Hold Still Life, gradually gave way to a clearer integration of fuzz and jangle across later releases, notably the 2019 album Meaning.

Singer/guitarist Browne and multi-instrumentalist/producer Andrew Futral (the Age of Rockets) launched the project around 2010. They issued several fuzz-laden singles—among them a version of Deerhunter’s “Helicopter”—before bassist Saysha Heinzman joined. Top Shelf Records put out Hold Still Life in 2014; keyboardist Zoë Browne and drummer Tim McCoy were subsequently added to the core lineup, after which Episodic appeared in 2016. A short break followed, during which Browne and Futral enlisted Kyle Gilbride (Swearin’) to help produce the band’s third album, Meaning, issued by Top Shelf in 2019.
