Basement Revolver

Basement Revolver, an indie rock trio, draws from the intense and atmospheric sounds of Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Pixies while shaping noisy yet graceful shoegaze-tinged pieces such as "Dancing" and "Knocking," both featured on the 2018 album Heavy Eyes. Their appreciation for the experimental noise rock of the 1990s and the garage rock revival that emerged in early-2000s New York City helped them build a loyal audience throughout Canada and the United States. The lineup includes guitarist and vocalist Chrisy Hurn, bass guitarist Nimal Agalawatte, and drummer Brandon Munro; the group formed in Hamilton, Ontario in 2015 and settled on its name following extended periods spent in Hurn’s basement apartment. Within months the members had assembled original material and begun playing local shows, releasing their first single, “Johnny,” in 2016. The track earned praise for Hurn’s introspective and cathartic lyrics as well as its brash yet accessible sonic palette, prompting U.K.-based Fear of Missing Out Records to sign the band later that year. Recording their debut self-titled EP at a hometown studio, Basement Revolver moved toward a grittier and heavier approach while retaining the warm sheen of “Johnny” throughout the release, which appeared in late 2016. They supported the EP with performances across Canada and the U.S. during 2017 and also issued their second EP, Agatha, that year, expanding their following on both sides of the Atlantic. Toward the close of 2017 the trio returned to the local studio to begin work on their first full-length, Heavy Eyes, which was released in August 2018.
