Philadelphia-based singer-songwriter Zoë Reynolds fronts Kississippi, an outfit that fashions layered indie rock marked by contemplative moods. The project's inaugural album, Sunset Blush, surfaced in 2018, while the follow-up, Mood Ring, arrived in 2021 and featured a glossier production bolstered by synth textures.

Kississippi began as a duo, issuing its first recording, the spectral folk EP I Can Feel You in My Hair Still, in 2014. Zoë Reynolds tracked the spare collection alongside Colin James Kupson, an acquaintance she encountered via a dating application, inside her mother's laundry room. The pair returned the next year with the more expansive We Have No Future, We're All Doomed, released on New Jersey's Soft Speak Records. After parting in 2016, Reynolds reshaped Kississippi into a complete electric ensemble under her direction. Her leanings toward emo-tinged pop aligned with SideOneDummy, which added the project to its roster in 2017. Label upheaval prompted Reynolds to issue the debut full-length Sunset Blush herself in April 2018, although U.K. imprint Alcopop! managed distribution on the other side of the Atlantic.

Triple Crown Records welcomed Kississippi aboard in 2020, and Mood Ring followed the subsequent August. Andy Park, known for his work with Pedro the Lion and Meg Myers, served as primary producer, with additional contributions from Bartees Strange and Deep Sea Diver's Jessica Dobson.
