The offspring of reggae icon Freddie McGregor, Daniel “Chino” McGregor developed into a Jamaican singjay whose profile gained traction in 2010 through his “global” approach to dancehall. Although his upbringing in a music-filled household acquainted him with numerous styles outside the reggae he held dear, a relocation to America combined with employment at Slip N Slide proved decisive in widening his sonic range. Surrounded by figures such as Trick Daddy and Trina at the label offices, he absorbed the Dirty South aesthetic thoroughly before returning to Jamaica. There he initially built his career as Cappuccino, quickly moving into co-writing and production work for TOK, Elephant Man, and Daville. By 2011, now recording as Chino, he issued the EP From Mawning as well as the album Chino...The Autobiography of Daniel McGregor, both issued via the VP label.
