Biography
After contributing keyboards to three albums with Dream Theater, Kevin Moore departed the group to concentrate on his own endeavor, Chroma Key. The project discards the metallic aspects of Dream Theater’s approach in favor of ’70s prog-rock and early-’80s synth-pop, with special emphasis on their most atmospheric and ambient dimensions, drawing from figures such as Brian Eno, Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, and Talk Talk’s Mark Hollis. Moore’s initial Chroma Key recording featured Fates Warning rhythm-section players Joey Vera on bass and Mark Zonder on drums, together with guitarist Jason Anderson; issued under the title Dead Air for Radios, the album reached Europe in 1998 and the United States the next year via Fight Evil Records. For the subsequent Chroma Key release Moore recruited programmer and co-producer Steve Tushar along with guitarist Dave Iscove, whose style reflects David Gilmour’s influence; the resulting album, You Go Now, surfaced in late 2000, after which Moore moved to Costa Rica.
