The founding pair behind Claire Voyant—Chris Ross on programming and Ben Fargen on guitar—first crossed paths in childhood, which soon produced a deep creative bond between them. With the Cure and Cocteau Twins serving as core reference points, the pair initially revealed their leanings through understated pop pieces augmented by enchanting streamlined drawings. Those melodies reached full realization only after Victoria Lloyd joined, supplying a crucial counterweight to the group’s arrangements. The self-titled Claire Voyant appeared in 1995 and was later reissued in 1997 by the German label Hyperium, thereby broadening the trio’s already notable audience. Their second album, Time and the Maiden, arrived in 1998 and further consolidated their reputation, a standing reinforced two years afterward by Time Again, whose remixes included contributions from Front 242 and Covenant. A recording agreement with Accession Records followed in 2001.
