Early in 1998, vocalist, keyboardist, and composer Debra L. Fogarty launched the Los Angeles-based goth rock band Diva Destruction. The group’s state-of-the-art goth sound combines darkness and gloom with rich melodies and an aggressive edge. During 1999 the band tracked its debut album, Passion’s Price, which appeared on Fogarty’s own label and featured second vocalist Severina Sol, also a member of the Seattle-based industrial band Fockewolf. The title Passion’s Price reflects the album’s bleak perspective on relationships, which maintains that pain and suffering constitute the unavoidable cost of passion. “The Broken Ones,” the band’s first single, emerged as an underground club hit throughout the U.S. and Europe and was featured on Cleopatra’s goth/industrial/EBM compilation The Unquiet Grave 2000. By 2000 the lineup consisted of Fogarty, guitarist Benn Ra, drummer/percussionist Jimmy Cleveland, and keyboardist Sharon. Because her legal name is Sharon Stone and she wishes to avoid confusion with the well-known actress, she performs under her first name alone.
