Stefan Ackermann’s Germanic vocals mesh with the electronic soundscapes crafted by Bruno Kramm and Daniel Galda, allowing Das Ich to connect with a steadily expanding listenership through an ever-widening palette of atmospheric textures. Die Propheten, originally issued in Germany in 1981 where it moved more than thirty thousand copies, resurfaced in the United States during January 1997.

Beginning in the mid-1990s the band intensified its efforts to cultivate a North American audience, undertaking U.S. tours in both 1996 and 1997. With the spring 1997 release Egodram, Das Ich adopted a more danceable, up-tempo approach. The same music served as the soundtrack for the Hans Helmut Haessler-directed and produced film Das Ewige Light.

Three musicians of markedly different origins converge in Das Ich. Ackermann entered the world in Berlin, while keyboardist Galda comes from East Germany. Electronics specialist Kramm, a Munich native, launched his initial electronic project Fahrenheit 451 in 1986. Beyond writing the trio’s material, Kramm handles synthesizer and sample programming as well as final album mixes.
