Clara Moreno, the daughter of Nelson Ângelo and Joyce and sibling of vocalist Ana Martins, joined children’s choirs at an early age for sessions supporting Milton Nascimento, Egberto Gismonti, Ivone Lara, Gonzaguinha, Alcione, Joyce, Cazuza, Teca & Ricardo, Bloco da Palhoça, Balão Mágico, and Astrofolias. She later supplied vocals for Joyce, Nelson Ângelo, Robertinho Silva, and Aerosex. Launching her solo career in 1995, she appeared two years afterward in the Gets Bossa Nova production in Tokyo, Japan, and contributed “Só Danço Samba” to the album 40 Anos de Bossa Nova. By 1999 she had completed three solo albums and that year opened for the Chemical Brothers at Rio’s Metropolitan. In 1984 she performed as actress and vocalist in Astrofolias, set to music by Antônio Adolfo and Paulinho Tapajós, at the Villa-Lobos theater. She moved to France for study in 1989 and, in 1991, took part in a Joyce concert at the Théâtre de La Ville; while in that city she also sang solo at the Hotel Méridien and cut her first single. After returning to Brazil in 1994 she appeared on the track “Minha Gata Rita Lee” from Joyce’s album Revendo Amigos. Her first solo engagement took place in 1995 at Rio’s Au Bar as a tribute to Rita Lee. The next year she joined the Filhos de Peixe project and performed at various halls, including the Ballroom in Rio; she also opened for Paulinho Moska at Garota de Ipanema park in Rio and issued her debut solo album, Clara Moreno.
