Jairzinho Rodrigues Mello Oliveira entered the world on 17 March 1975 in São Paulo, Brazil. His upbringing unfolded within a household steeped in music, his father being Jair Rodrigues and his sister the singer Luciana Mello. Early television appearances included spots on the children’s program Balão Mágico, after which he joined its offshoot ensemble Turma Do Balão Mágico for a chart-successful recording. He later enrolled at Berklee College Of Music, completing a 1998 degree that combined Music Production And Engineering with Music Business. Within the collective Projeto Artistas Reunidos he emerged as a central figure, joining fellow musicians intent on fusing classic samba and bossa nova with soul and contemporary pop currents. Alongside Oliveira and Luciana Mello, the lineup featured João Marcello Bôscoli, Daniel Carlomagno, Max De Castro, Pedro Mariano and Wilson Simoninha. His own catalog, issued by the Trama label, has followed comparable stylistic aims, most memorably on the 2003 album 3.1.
