Biography
Mark Stewart ranks among the leading figures tied to Manchester’s Ai imprint and its emphasis on intelligent dance music. He introduced the Claro Intelecto moniker in 2003 via the Peace of Mind 12". The two A-side cuts both registered strongly, as the title piece landed on multiple year-end DJ lists while “Contact” appeared on Ricardo Villalobos’ Taka Taka mix album. Early 2004 brought the follow-up 12" Section, and Neurofibro, titled after the genetic condition Stewart himself has endured, surfaced in late April. Like most others on the label, Stewart draws from foundational electro and Detroit techno sources (Afrika Bambaataa, Model 500, Drexciya) as well as U.K. IDM imprints such as Warp, Skam, and Rephlex.
