Connie Constance, born Constance Power in Watford, Hertfordshire, trained in ballet and musical theater prior to focusing on songwriting. An English performer whose work spans multiple styles, she has drawn comparisons to Lily Allen, King Krule, and Hiatus Kaiyote. Early recordings from 2015 and 2016 appeared on Black Acre, where she shaped a blend of contemporary indie pop and soul-rooted alternative R&B. Her first full-length project, English Rose, arrived in March 2019 via Universal’s AMF imprint and featured contributions from Jim Abbiss, Luke Gomm, and Dave Okumu, opening with a cover of the Jam’s title track. She later established her own outlet, Jump the Fence, issuing the five-track EP The Butterfly Club alongside additional singles in 2020, followed by the 2021 EP Prim & Propa. Her second album, Miss Power, emerged in 2022 on the Belgian label Play It Again Sam.

As a teenager she gravitated toward indie acts ranging from the Stone Roses to Arctic Monkeys, yet she sensed pressure as a woman of color to pursue mainstream R&B. After composing dozens of tracks that felt inauthentic, she chose instead to create music that mirrored her own experiences and resisted easy categorization. Black Acre, whose slogan reads “Genre? There is no genre,” released her three-song In the Grass EP and the single “Answer,” both recorded with Blue Daisy in 2015. She subsequently signed with AMF and issued a series of singles over the next two years, among them the ballad “Let Go,” recorded with Ben Baptie and Alfa Mist and later included on English Rose. Since going independent she has continued to explore themes of empowerment and self-actualization across her catalog.
