Biography
Raveena cultivates a dreamy, silky fusion of R&B and polished adult pop whose lyrics center on empowerment and self-love. Her first full-length project, Lucid, arrived in 2019, followed a year later by the companion EP Moonstone. Even as she expanded her sonic palette with Bollywood elements and the production sensibilities of Timbaland and M.I.A., she kept the atmosphere intimate on her Warner-issued major-label debut, Asha’s Awakening, released in February 2022. In May 2024 she issued the single “Pluto,” which threaded strings, traditional Indian instruments, and subtle jazz inflections through her characteristically smooth R&B framework.
An Indian-American songwriter born in Massachusetts and raised in Queens, New York, and Stamford, Connecticut, Raveena Aurora began treating music as a serious pursuit only after relocating to New York to attend NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. Drawing from the work of Sade, Corinne Bailey Rae, and Asha Puthli, she tested an array of styles before arriving at her own refined, tranquil strain of R&B. Her debut EP, Shanti, came out on House Music in 2017. She followed it with the album Lucid, issued on her own Moonstone Recordings imprint via Empire distribution in mid-2019. The 2020 EP Moonstone, also released on Moonstone Recordings/Empire, took its name from the stone’s reputed healing qualities and was recorded during the same sessions that produced her debut album. After she moved to Los Angeles, the track “Tweety” appeared on 12Tone in 2021. On Asha’s Awakening she collaborated with Vince Staples, Asha Puthli, and Tweaks while employing richer production and a wider range of stylistic references. Early in 2023 she made her debut appearance in India, performing in Mumbai at Lollapalooza India, and later that year she guested on the King Krule song “Seagirl.”
