Convulse

Convulse, a Finnish death metal outfit that proved short-lived, brought together vocalist and guitarist Rami Jämsä, guitarist Toni Honkala, bassist Juha Telenius, and drummer Janne Miikkulainen. The group put out just two albums across its initial run—World Without God in 1992 and Reflections in 1994—and neither release earned significant attention during that period. Later assessments, however, have positioned the band among Finland’s earliest notable extreme metal acts, with some observers regarding Convulse as the originators of the regional style sometimes labeled “Nokia” metal. In 2013 the musicians caught observers off guard by issuing Evil Prevails, their third full-length and the first collection of fresh material in almost twenty years. Another pronounced change arrived in 2016 via Cycle of Revenge, an album that folded progressive and psychedelic rock ingredients into the ensemble’s established “death & roll” approach.
