Seattle death metal outfit Cerebral Rot set out to craft music deliberately repulsive in both its lyrics and its sonic approach. Their style fuses grimy, dissonant riffs rooted in crust punk, D-beat, doom, sludge, and early black metal with thick, saturated blastbeats and guttural vocals that barely register as human, yielding a dense and aggressive strain of old-school death metal.

The group’s early releases featured tracks such as “Swamped in Festering Excrementia” and “Reeking Septic Mass,” while their full-length albums comprise Odious Descent Into Decay (2019) and Excretion of Mortality (2021).

Formed in early 2016, the Seattle unit drew together longtime underground metal participants: vocalist and guitarist Purveyor of Destruction (Ian Schwab, ex-Warpvomit), bassist Zach Nehl (ex-Chronic Tomb), drummer Drew O'Bryant (ex-Acid Feast), and guitarist Clyle Lindstrom of Fetid and Caustic Wound, who joined in 2018. Because every member remained active in other projects, the collective could only rehearse, compose, and perform locally during scattered windows of availability.

That June they self-released a four-song cassette demo titled Cessation of Life in an edition of just twenty copies. Once the recording circulated online it reached Denmark’s Extremely Rotten Productions, which reissued the demo in August; Parasitic Records then pressed a limited 7" vinyl version in September that sold out immediately.

Following West Coast touring dates, the band signed with 20 Buck Spin early the next year and tracked their debut album with producer Detto Vincent Detto. After mastering by Dan Lowndes, the single “Repulsive Infestation of Cadaver” was issued as both video and stream to herald Odious Descent Into Decay, which appeared in mid-August while the group was still on the road across the United States. In 2021 they delivered their second album, Excretion of Mortality.
