Cooly G, born Merrisa Campbell, works as a vocalist, producer, and DJ while maintaining a central role on England's renowned Hyperdub imprint beginning in 2009. That same year brought her debut 12" titled "Narst," whose forceful opening track was paired with the B-side "Love (Dub)," a gentle blend of lovers rock reggae and modern R&B. Hyperdub's five-year anniversary series closed out 2009 with a split 12" she shared alongside Mala. Another Hyperdub 12" appeared the next year, joined by a further split release on DVA Music with Scratcha DVA. One highlight of King Midas Sound's 2011 Without You compilation arrived via her revoice of the track "Meltdown," newly titled "Spin Me Around." The heated vocal performance she supplied there foreshadowed the direction of her initial full-length efforts, Playin' Me (2012) and Wait 'Til Night (2014), both issued through Hyperdub. An EP of lean club cuts called Armz House surfaced in 2015. Additional production credits include remixes for Zero 7 on "Medicine Man," V.V. Brown on "Game Over," Ke$ha on "Tik Tok," Speech Debelle on "I'm with It," and the Knife on "A Tooth for an Eye."
