Crater

Forming the Seattle-based indie electronic duo Crater are Ceci Gomez and Kessiah Gordon, whose upbeat tracks delve into relationships and communication during the post-Internet period. Drawing from '90s alternative rock, trip-hop, and industrial influences, the pair evoke electropop outfits such as Chvrches while pursuing a stronger experimental bent; song construction typically begins with stacked guitar riffs, samples, and drum loops that later coalesce into finished pieces. Longtime friends, the two first assembled material in 2014 before uploading tracks online and garnering favorable reactions. By year's end Crater had formed a performing ensemble with guitarist Ben Roth and bassist Lance Umble, then embarked on tour support for Canadian goth pop artist TR/ST. The year 2015 found them developing fresh songs and staging shows across America, which led to several weeks of touring with MS MR that fall. Their debut album, Talk to Me So I Can Fall Asleep, appeared on Help Yourself Records in February of 2016. A more direct and accessible follow-up, Unearth, arrived in 2017.
