Biography
Creature with the Atom Brain formed as an alternative rock outfit in Antwerp, Belgium, with Aldo Struyf handling vocals, guitar, and keyboards alongside Michiel Van Cleuvenbergen on guitar, Jan Wygers on bass, and Michael Lawrence on drums. The group took its name from a Roky Erickson composition that itself borrowed the title of a 1955 motion picture. After coming together in 2005, the quartet first explored its psych-infused approach through two early EPs, The Snake that same year and Kill the Snake in 2006, before issuing its debut full-length album, I Am the Golden Gate Bridge, in 2008. The record earned broad critical praise and opened the door to live dates alongside an eclectic range of acts that included the Jesus and Mary Chain as well as Masters of Reality; the latter band’s frontman, Chris Goss, later served as producer for the group’s sophomore effort, Transylvania, released in 2010.
