Emerging with a signature style of introspective indie pop and R&B crafted in a bedroom setting, d4vd—whose name is pronounced “David”—first drew notice through Fortnite gameplay footage before surging forward with the 2022 release “Romantic Homicide.” Both of his debut extended plays, Petals to Thorns and The Lost Petals, reached audiences in 2023, and further singles plus soundtrack placements such as the 2024 track “Remember Me” kept his output flowing.

A Houston native born David Anthony Burke and recording as d4vd, he shared clips of himself playing Fortnite throughout his teenage years. After mastering music creation on his own via BandLab in 2021, he began posting original songs, among them the mellow indie pop cuts “You and I,” “Life’s a Dream,” and “Take Me to the Sun.” The darker, emo-leaning “Romantic Homicide” appeared online in July 2022; it spread quickly enough to hit number 33 on the Billboard Hot 100 by September and landed him a contract with Darkroom Records.

A string of additional singles preceded the May 2023 arrival of Petals to Thorns, which registered on the Billboard 200 and was succeeded four months later by The Lost Petals. Fresh non-album material followed, including the 2023 collaboration “Call Me Revenge” with 21 Savage and 2024’s “Leave Her.” He supplied “Feel It” for the series Invincible and contributed “Remember Me” to Arcane League of Legends.
