Formed in Glasgow, Scotland during 2006, the six-piece fight-pop hardcore group Dananananaykroyd quickly earned notice for the ferocious intensity of their stage shows. Early gigs prompted immediate parallels to At the Drive-In in their most explosive period, with a pair of drummers laying down rapid, locked-in beats while guitars unleashed jagged, distorted barrages at matching velocity.

The project originated in January 2006 after James Hamilton on drums and David Roy on guitar watched their prior group Multiplies dissolve; they assembled the expanded Dananananaykroyd roster from acquaintances to counter the prevailing art-school stereotype of Glaswegian acts such as Belle & Sebastian or Franz Ferdinand. Influences drawn from the Fall, Black Flag, Pavement, and Sonic Youth helped shape their singularly abrasive take on fight-pop, positioned as a direct counter to the calculated polish then dominating indie circles.

Giles Bailey departed the vocalist role in late 2006, prompting Calum Gunn to switch from drums to vocals while John Baillie Junior assumed drumming duties. The debut single “Totally Bone” appeared via Moshi Moshi that year, followed later in 2006 by “Some Dresses” on Jealous Records. Label complications delayed the first full EP, Sissy Hits, until its eventual release through Holy Roar in April 2008.
