Biography
Emerging from Leeds' vibrant music community with their high-energy performances, Pulled Apart by Horses quickly gained recognition as one of its standout acts. The quartet came together in 2007 after each member had played in separate groups that later dissolved: vocalist Tom Hudson had led Mother Vulpine, guitarist James Brown had performed with It Takes Bridges, bassist Rob Lee had been in Concentration Champ, and drummer Lee Vincent had already established himself as a longtime presence on the local circuit. They characterized their music as "back door scuzz rage pop" and made their live debut at a clandestine show in the pub above their rehearsal space, where invitations went out solely by text message. Strong local support soon followed, along with press notice earned through headlining slots at the festivals Manfest and Nasty Fest IX. In 2008 the band secured a place on the BBC Introducing... stage at Reading/Leeds Festival. Their self-titled debut album appeared in 2010 via Transgressive Records, after which they joined Muse on tour and later that year supported Biffy Clyro. Recording sessions for the follow-up took place in 2011 at Monnow Valley Studio in Wales, yielding Tough Love, which surfaced the next year. The group then parted ways with Transgressive Records to release their third album, Blood, on the newly formed Best of the Best Records imprint in 2014.
