Mexican singer Daniela Romo began her artistic path by performing with the vocal ensemble los Hermanos Zavala and appearing in Eduardo Gorostiza’s stage production Contigo Pan y Cebolla. Seeking greater command of her craft, she trained in acting at Andrés Solar’s Academy, which led her into modeling in 1973 and soon afterward into roles in television commercials.

Her independent recording career opened in 1983 with the self-titled album Daniela Romo, propelled by the hit single “Mentiras.” The follow-up release Amor Prohibido brought her second major success, the single “Yo No Te Pido La Luna.” In 1992 New York’s Ace honored the album with three awards: Best Album of the Year, Best Female Performer, and Best Video Clip.

January 1993 brought further distinction when the Mexican community in Brownsville, Texas, named her Mr. Amigo, and later that year listeners in Argentina voted her Best Female Singer. By the close of 2000, Univisión had contracted her to host the Spanish-language edition of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.
