Marco Antonio Solís ranks among the central architects behind the ascent of Mexican and Latin music onto the international stage across the final two decades of the twentieth century. Hailing from Michoacan, Mexico, he assembled his debut ensemble, Los Hermanitos Solís, together with his brother Joel upon turning twelve. While still in his teens, he launched Los Bukis during the early 1970s. Across the ensuing twenty years, Los Bukis left an enduring imprint on the norteño and tejano styles throughout Mexico and the southwestern United States. Even as he sustained close ties with the group, Solís pursued an independent path that secured platinum awards for the mid-1990s releases Quiereme, Inalcanzable, and Por Amor a Mi Pueblo. Trozos de Mi Alma arrived in 1999.

He opened the new century with the double live collection En Vivo and its follow-up, En Vivo, Vol. 2. The studio album Mas de Mi Alma appeared in 2001 and matched the commercial performance of its predecessors. Though no fresh studio project surfaced until 2003, several tracks from Mas de Mi Alma, among them “Cuando Te Acuerdes de Mi” and “Si No Te Hubieras Ido,” registered on Billboard’s Latin charts. Issued in May 2003, Tu Amor o Tu Desprecio climbed steadily until claiming the top position in early 2004. The retrospective La Historia Continúa... surfaced late that year, while the following spring brought the joint effort Dos Grandes with Joan Sebastían. Razon de Sobra closed out 2004. A second installment of La Historia Continúa... and a collaboration with tejano vocalist Pepe Aguilar both emerged in 2005. Trozos de Mi Alma, Vol. 2 reached stores in 2006; it promptly led the Latin album rankings, yielded the hit “Antes de Que Te Vayas,” and earned Solís a Grammy nomination for Best Latin Pop Album.

June 2008 saw the live set Noche en Madrid, followed five months later by his eighth studio album, No Molestar. Both topped the Latin albums chart. After a brief pause, Solís returned to the studio. En Total Plenitud appeared in 2010, becoming his tenth consecutive number-one release on that chart and thereby establishing a record. Its single “A Dónde Vamos a Parar” featured in the telenovela Theresa, and the album attained platinum certification. Solís mounted worldwide touring in support for more than a year. Once the tour ended, he reentered the studio without delay. The single and video “Tres Semanas” surfaced in summer 2013, succeeded by the advance single and video “De Mil Amores” in early 2014.

Gracias por Estar Aquí arrived in April 2014 and received a nomination for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album at the Latin Grammy Awards, where “De Mil Amores” captured Best Regional Song. The project also earned a nomination for Best Latin Pop Album at the 57th Grammy Awards. It marked his final release on a Universal-affiliated label. Proceeding independently, Solís issued the deluxe live package Por Amor a Morelia Michoacan, named after his birthplace. Recorded in 2012 in combined audio and video formats, it was introduced by the medley single “Mi Mayor Necesidad”/“A Donde Vayas” in March 2015, with the album appearing in multiple configurations the following month.
