Biography
Emerging from a humble Mexican household as a celebrated figure in both cinema and melody during his era, Pedro Infante gained foundational musical insights from his father, the musician Delfino Infante García, while receiving devoted affection from his mother, Refugio Cruz. He formed a small ensemble named la Rabia and performed across nightclub venues prior to becoming part of the prominent Orquesta Estrella de Culiacan. In 1939, however, he relocated to Mexico City aiming for an individual path in music, performing in modest local spots and securing a spot on a radio program following an encounter with José Luis Ugalde. His debut recording appeared in December 1943. Although recognized with Best Actor nominations for his performances in the 1947 film Cuando Lloran los Valientes and the 1948 production Los Tres Huastecos, he received the accolade from the Mexican Academy in 1956 for La Vida No Vale Nada. Notably, an early cinematic effort, Cuando Habla el Corazón from 1943 under the direction of Juan José Segura, did not engage viewers and ran for merely one week. Widely recognized as the King of Mexican Bolero along with the Idol from Guamuchil, Pedro Infante met an untimely end through a plane accident on April 15, 1957.
