Originally born in Highland Park, New Jersey, under the name Young Boss Nieves, the rapper later known as David Rush launched his hip-hop pursuits while attending the Art Institute of Atlanta. During that period he connected with the emerging producer Soundz, who maintained contact after Rush returned to New Jersey. Their joint effort on the club cut “Go Girl” drew the notice of Miami rapper Pitbull, resulting in a 2007 signing to Pitbull’s 305 imprint. That same year a new version of “Go Girl” featuring Young Boss alongside Trina was included on Pitbull’s Boatlift album. Shortly afterward Rush received a diagnosis of the kidney ailment focal segmental glomerulosclerosis; in response to his outlook on the condition he adopted the name David Rush to underscore that every moment matters. His initial project under the revised moniker arrived in late 2008 with the mixtape Feel the Rush Vol. 1: Signing Season. Early the following year the polished club single “Shooting Star,” which paired Rush with Pitbull and Cash Money rocker Kevin Rudolf, was released.
