Dev, the Los Angeles-based rapper, vocalist, and songwriter also known as Devin Star Tailes, crafts electronic pop that merges hip-hop elements with dance rhythms and centers on her composed singing style. She entered the world in 1989 and spent her formative years in Manteca, California, where high school life revolved around swimming along with participation in band and choir. While enrolled in English and art history courses at San Joaquin Delta College, she uploaded a rendition of Amy Winehouse's "Blonde Trick" onto MySpace. Alternative hip-hop pair the Cataracs noticed the upload and arranged a management agreement for her through their Indie-Pop imprint. Following her relocation to Los Angeles in 2009, she teamed up repeatedly with the Cataracs on numbers such as "2Nite," "Fireball," and "Booty Bounce," the last of which Far East Movement incorporated into the chart-topping "Like a G6." One year afterward she joined Universal Republic and issued the Cataracs-helmed "Bass Down Low," a track that entered Billboard's Hot 100. Her first studio album arrived in 2011 under the Cataracs' guidance as The Night the Sun Came Up and featured the singles "In the Dark" plus "Naked" with Enrique Iglesias. During that same period she welcomed her initial child, a daughter, alongside professional skateboarder and then-fiancé Jimmy Gorecki. Dev resurfaced in 2014 via the EP Bittersweet July, highlighted by the NanosauR-crafted "Kids." Following the independent releases "Lowkey" and "#1" during 2016, she unveiled her second full-length effort, I Only See You When I'm Dreamin', in September 2017; it contained "Come at Me" and "Trouble" with Marko Penn.
