Stockholm native Ellinor Olovsdotter, who mixes pop, EDM, dancehall, and rap, adopted the moniker Elliphant after journeying to the U.K. alongside a dubstep sound system and immersing herself in the capital’s urban music landscape. Her first single, the energetic “Tekkno Scene,” surfaced in 2012 and drew positive nods to M.I.A. and Major Lazer while also appearing on the soundtrack of FIFA 13. Later the same year she issued “Ciant Hear It” and “Down on Life,” the latter’s video earning a shout-out from Katy Perry. During 2013 she put out a self-titled debut EP, joined Dr. Luke’s imprint, and started recording her first full-length project. That October the album A Good Idea arrived, featuring guest spots from Niki & the Dove and spotlighting “Down on Life” as a single; it earned her a 2014 P3 Gold Award nomination in the Newcomer of the Year category. April 2014 brought the Look Like You Love It EP on Mad Decent, which paired her with Diplo, Dave Sitek of TV on the Radio, Skrillex, and Dr. Luke. Her 2015 release Living Life Golden, a wide-ranging set, again linked her with Skrillex, Sitek, and Dr. Luke while adding Azealia Banks, Big Freedia, and George Lewis, Jr. of Twin Shadow to her circle of collaborators.
