Biography
David “Campa” Benjamin Singer-Vine and Niles “Cyrano” Hollowell-Dhar first joined forces in 2003 during their high school years in Berkeley, CA, merging their abilities as songwriters, vocalists, and producers. In 2006 the pair adopted the Cataracs as their moniker, drawn from a lyric in Snoop Dogg’s “What’s My Name, Pt. 2,” then issued the self-released Technohop, Vol. 1 while also crafting the sparse and booming “Blueberry Afghani” for local act the Pack. After issuing several understated albums and mixtapes, they achieved widespread recognition via “Like a G6,” their collaboration with Far East Movement and vocalist Dev that reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in late October 2010. Dev followed with her own Cataracs-helmed single “Bass Down Low,” which entered the same chart before year’s end. The Cataracs sustained their run of successes by supplying Snoop with “Wet,” another stripped-down, bass-heavy production created for Prince William’s bachelor party and appearing on the charts in early 2011.
