Formed in 2006, Hyper Crush emerged as a dance-pop group drawing from vivid strains of new wave, party rap, and EDM. The trio comprises rapper Donny Fontaine (born Steven Love), singer Holly Valentine (born Angelina Araya), and DJ/keyboardist Preston Moronie (born Patrick Ridge). All three members attended Agoura Hills High School in California. Their first release, the self-issued 31-track Mixtape, Vol. 1, arrived in August 2007 and was followed in May 2008 by The Arcade, their initial proper album, which also appeared independently. After signing with Universal Motown, the group encountered delays in delivering a second album and therefore put out Mixtape, Vol. 2 on their own in June 2009. Their first single to chart, "Kick Us Out," surfaced in late 2010 and reached number six on Billboard's club chart the next year. In the wake of that success, Hyper Crush departed Universal Motown to found the Night Wave label, through which they issued Night Wave in February 2012 and Vertigo in October 2013. Seasoned stage veterans, they have toured alongside Lady Gaga and Far East Movement as well as many additional acts, and they have supplied remixes for LMFAO, La Roux, Katy Perry, and Gotye.
