Formed in 2005, Hot Chelle Rae merged the sleek aesthetics of mainstream pop with the vigorous, guitar-driven energy of dance-rock. The lineup consisted of vocalist Ryan Keith Follesé, guitarist Nash Overstreet, drummer Jamie Follesé, and bassist Ian Keaggy, each hailing from homes steeped in music; Ryan, Nash, and Jamie were the offspring of prominent Nashville songwriters, whereas Ian’s dad earned a Grammy nomination for his guitar work. This heritage enabled the group to swiftly develop an appealing commercial style that attracted a deal with Jive Records by 2008. Production on their first album moved forward rapidly, supported by contributions from Butch Walker and Eric Valentine, leading to the 2009 release of Lovesick Electric. In 2011, they followed up with Whatever, which included the Top Ten single “Tonight Tonight.”
