Anarbor came together as a teenage pop-punk outfit in 2004 while its members were still enrolled in junior high in Phoenix, Arizona. Slade Echeverria handled lead vocals, Adam Juwig and Mike Kitlas played guitar, Jess Myers held down bass, and Greg Garrity sat behind the drums. The group soon established itself as a fixture in Arizona’s all-ages circuit. Their debut EP, Hearing Colours, Seeing Sounds, was tracked in 2006 and issued as a digital release the next year. That recording, combined with mounting live acclaim highlighted by a spring 2008 appearance at South by Southwest, led to a contract with Hopeless Records immediately after the members graduated high school that summer. Hopeless, home to acts such as Avenged Sevenfold and Against All Authority, issued the full-length Free Your Mind in 2009. The band leaned further into emo-rock territory on the 2010 album The Words You Don't Swallow. Several EPs appeared in the intervening years before the proper follow-up, Burnout, arrived in 2013.
