Biography
Virginia native Andrew Goldstein had spent several years playing guitar in My Favorite Highway before stepping away to launch an emo-pop project of his own. In 2006 he assembled Friday Night Boys, enlisting bassist Robby Dallas Reider, guitarist Mike Toohey, and drummer Chris Barrett. Early performances remained scarce because Goldstein had moved to Harrisonburg to attend college, where coursework left little room for frequent gigs. The group instead concentrated on writing and tracking original material, which they posted to MySpace. Those uploads attracted a growing listenership, and one new admirer—All Time Low frontman Alex Gaskarth—helped Friday Night Boys land a 2008 deal with Fueled by Ramen. The label quickly issued the EP That’s What She Said, followed a year later by the full-length album Off the Deep End.
