This Providence, an emo pop/rock outfit, first assembled during the summer of 2003 in Seattle, Washington, and promptly tracked and independently issued an opening EP. The lineup featured vocalist/guitarist Dan Young, guitarist Gavin Phillips, bassist/vocalist Phil Cobrea, and drummer Ryan Tapert; while still attending high school, the quartet cultivated a growing hometown audience by performing in the same Pacific Northwest circuit that had already produced Gatsbys American Dream and Forgive Durden. Around the same period the musicians aligned themselves with the Seattle imprint Rocketstar Recordings, and once they had completed their studies the label issued their debut full-length, Our Worlds Divorce, toward the close of 2004. In support of that record the band logged national dates alongside Daphne Loves Derby, Sherwood, and Jenoah, and the exposure ultimately led to a contract with Fueled by Ramen in the first months of 2006. Reuniting with producer Casey Bates, who had helmed their prior release, the group delivered its self-titled Fueled by Ramen album in September and maintained momentum by serving as openers for labelmates Paramore. That November, Cobrea declared his departure, after which Phoenix native David Blaise stepped in on bass.
