Biography
Hailing from Boulder, Colorado—the region whose area code lends the group its name—3OH!3 fuse witty rap deliveries with indie electronic production and an irreverent, high-spirited energy. Emerging in the final years of the 2000s, the pair moved swiftly from regional cult status to a Billboard 200 presence on the strength of exuberant tracks from their early releases Want (2008) and Streets of Gold (2010). Though their profile on the primary charts diminished through the following decade, they retained a firm foothold in club playlists with the 2021 set Need.
The project originated in 2004 when Sean Foreman and Nathaniel Motte, classmates at the University of Colorado, formed the duo. Their first recordings appeared in 2007 as an untitled, self-released collection. The follow-up, Want (2008), was helmed by producer Matt Squire and issued via Photo Finish Records. In support, the pair joined the national 2008 edition of the Warped Tour. They reconvened with Squire for their third full-length, Streets of Gold, which arrived in 2010. Omens, their fourth studio album, surfaced in 2013 and spotlighted the track “You’re Gonna Love This.” Signing with Fueled by Ramen in 2016, they delivered the album Night Sports that same year. Once its promotional cycle ended, the duo stepped back from the spotlight, surfacing only sporadically for isolated shows in 2018.
Their sixth LP, Need, was introduced by the buoyant 2020 collaboration “Lonely Machines” with hyperpop duo 100 gecs. The subsequent single “I’m So Sad” preceded the October 2021 release, which also contained “Vampire’s Diet” featuring Bert McCracken of the Used.
