Biography
D.D Dumbo serves as the stage identity for Oliver Hugh Perry, the Australian singer/songwriter whose singular pop approach fuses 12-string guitar and looping pedals with far-flung influences that stretch from meandering desert blues through Tuvan melodies to multiple African traditions. Born in Castlemaine, Victoria, he refined this sound across several years prior to unveiling his first EP, Tropical Oceans, in 2013. During the same twelve months he attracted notice in the U.S. by performing at the annual SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. Opening dates for tUnE-yArDs, St. Vincent, and Tame Impala followed, culminating in a deal with the U.K. imprint 4AD, which later reissued that initial EP. After the singles “Satan” and “Walrus” appeared, his debut album, Utopia Defeated, was released in October 2016.
