A enduring presence in modern lounge music, De-Phazz—alternately styled DePhazz—functions as a contemporary project helmed by German-Austrian producer Peter "Pit" Baumgartner, who has consistently drawn on a rotating roster of supporting artists that features vocalists Barbara Lahr, Karl Frierson, and Pat Appleton. From the release of Detunized Gravity in 1997 onward, Baumgartner and his associates have pursued multiple strands of lounge material, frequently merging sampled elements with live playing across wide intersections of vintage jazz and soul, easy listening, and Latin traditions. Selections such as "No Jive" and "The Mambo Craze" have surfaced on countless anthologies bearing "lounge," "chill," or "café" in their titles. Although the bulk of the De-Phazz output consists of studio constructions, the discography also encompasses joint, acoustic, and concert efforts including Big, captured alongside the Radio Bigband Frankfurt in 2009, Naive from 2013, and Private from 2016. Baumgartner has further contributed outside productions, reworking Ella Fitzgerald's "Wait 'til You See Him" for the inaugural Verve Remixed collection together with material by Kool & the Gang, a-ha, and Blank & Jones.
