Deadstar

Necessity prompted the formation of Australian group Deadstar. Guitarist Barry Palmer of Hunters & Collectors and Melbourne session drummer Peter Jones had already finished instrumental tracks intended for a film score when they sought lyrics and vocals. Ex-Plums singer Caroline Kennedy joined the project, and although the film ultimately yielded little, the trio decided to sustain their collaboration as a working band. Discordant Records in the UK subsequently acquired the single “Valentine’s Day,” which sold through its first pressing. Ex-Crowded House bassist Nick Seymour augmented the lineup for a British tour, yet his departure led to the arrival of another former Plums member, Peter McCracken, who had previously played with Kennedy. Michael Den was then added on second guitar. The resulting lineup issued three albums: Deadstar in 1996, Milk in 1997, and Somewhere Over The Radio in 1999.
