For the Dublin-based outfit Delorentos, useful comparisons can be drawn to fellow Irish acts Bell X1 and U2. Their music fuses sophisticated 1980s guitar pop with dense indie-rock arrangements and post-rock expanses that recall the approach of Canada's Arcade Fire, situating the quartet within Ireland's singular rock-band lineage while also matching the intensity of cathartic performers on the British post-punk revival circuit—most prominently their compatriots Director and Humanzi.

The same musicians had already appeared together in shifting line-ups since 1999, yet Delorentos itself coalesced only in 2005 once guitarists Ró Yourell and Kieran McGuinness (the latter doubling as lead singer), bassist Níal Conlon and drummer Ross McCormick found themselves between projects. Swift traction on Dublin's club circuit enabled them to finance a self-released EP, Leave It On, which surfaced in October of that year. Landing inside the Irish singles chart's upper thirty granted the band a place at Tony Wilson's In the City festival and a slot on RTÉ television's Other Voices early in 2006.

Most of the ensuing twelve months were devoted to writing, tracking and refining the material that became their debut album, produced by Gareth Mannix (Republic of Loose, Director, Angels of Mons). Issued on the fledgling Cottage Records in April 2007, In Love with Detail opened at number seven on the Irish albums chart and held a position inside the top fifty for three further weeks.
