Dia Frampton launched her musical path in alt-rock, completing three summers on the Warped Tour and issuing multiple albums through the duo Meg & Dia alongside her older sister. Born in Logan, Utah, to a Korean mother and a father native to Utah, the sisters shifted to Salt Lake City in 2005 and started adding members to their touring band. After building a solid indie following, Warner Bros. signed Meg & Dia and issued their third album, Here, Here and Here, in April 2009. The label ended the arrangement fifteen months later, returning the duo to independent status, and they released their fourth album, Cocoon, on their own in April 2011.

Dia soon joined the singing competition The Voice. Under the guidance of mentor Blake Shelton she reached the finale as one of the season’s strongest performers but finished second to Javier Colon. The song “Inventing Shadows,” performed during that final broadcast, became her biggest single to date, climbing to number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topping the digital charts. Her first major-label full-length, Red, appeared in December 2011. In the wake of its release she secured opening slots on tours with Blake Shelton and the Fray, then headlined her own dates with singer/songwriter Andrew Allen throughout 2012.

The next year Frampton posted on her blog that her sister had chosen to leave Meg & Dia in pursuit of other projects, thereby ending the duo. Around the same time Universal Republic dropped her from its roster. The following years proved difficult as she sought new creative direction, at one point working as a server at Los Angeles’ Central Market. During this period she recorded an EP with producer Joseph Trapanese. Released in 2015 as ARCHIS, the project revealed a darker sound marked by orchestral and electronic textures. Frampton and Trapanese later toured in support, opening for pop crossover violinist Lindsey Stirling.

Early in 2016, following Trapanese’s encouragement, Frampton resumed solo work and began writing new material with producer/composer Dan Heath (Lana Del Rey, Troye Sivan, Skylar Grey). She completed the album Bruises by September 2016 and released its first single, “Golden Years.” Continuing the emotive, orchestral approach heard on ARCHIS, Bruises arrived in 2017.
