Biography
Northern California siblings Gwendolyn and Lucy Giles launched Dog Party as a pop-punk duo in the late 2000s while still children. The Ramones shaped their sound, which also recalled the Donnas, and the pair put out a self-titled debut in 2009. Subsequent releases such as the 2011 album P.A.R.T.Y. and 2016’s 'Til You're Mine showed the sisters sharpening both their guitar attack and their singing.
The group actually began in 2005 with an initial rehearsal that took place when guitarist Gwendolyn was nine and drummer Lucy was six. From then onward the sisters kept composing material, rehearsing, and performing occasional concerts while balancing music against school and everyday life. Their first release, a seven-song self-titled EP, came out in January 2009; two years later they followed it with the likewise independent P.A.R.T.Y. Wider exposure and greater technical command led to more frequent gigs, among them a European tour. Legendary Northern California punk imprint Asian Man noticed the duo, signed them, and issued their second full-length, Lost Control, during summer 2013. The sisters joined their friend Kepi, ex-Groovie Ghoulies, on the road and sometimes backed him as well. Burger Records later joined Asian Man to co-issue the next album. Once more working with local producer Chris Woodhouse, the band advanced further on 2015’s Vol. 4. Momentum held with the July 2016 arrival of 'Til You're Mine, which prompted Green Day to invite Dog Party on the road behind Revolution Radio. Their sixth album, Hit & Run, appeared in 2018.
