Biography
During the middle of the 1990s, singer/guitarist Jonathan Scott assembled indie pop unit the Doleful Lions in Chicago, after which the ensemble promptly shifted its base to Chapel Hill, NC. Bassist Robert Scott, the frontman’s brother, joined guitarist Joe Caparo and drummer Tony Stiglitz in the lineup that enlisted noted producer Mitch Easter to oversee the 1998 debut Motel Swim. Robert Scott exited the Doleful Lions shortly thereafter, with bassist Amy Palazzolo stepping in as his replacement. The Rats Are Coming! The Werewolves Are Here! appeared the following year. Released in 2000, the unusual Song Cyclops delivered another set of B-movie power pop numbers in which the band addressed witches and Sasquatches. Two years later the poppier Out Like a Lamb surfaced, followed by Shaded Lodge and Mausoleum in 2005. The numerology-influenced 7 surfaced in 2008.
