In 1986 Germany, Bernie Kolbe, who handled both vocals and bass, joined British expatriate Cliff Jackson on guitar—previously the leader of UK progressive rock group Epitaph—to found this hard rock band. The ensemble, initially called Kingdom, brought in guitarist Alex Ritt, keyboard player Voker Sassenberg and drummer Thorstein Preker before issuing its self-titled 1988 debut on Teldec Records. Shortly after, confusion with the US hard rock group Kingdom Come forced a name change to Domain, which prompted the original album to be repackaged and retitled Our Kingdom. The following year saw Before The Storm arrive under the production of Albert Bockholt, who had previously collaborated with Magnum and Treat, as the band pursued its established direction of experimental yet somewhat mannered psychedelic hard rock.
