Biography
Merging melodic rap with upbeat pop and psychedelic influences, the Korean rapper and singer DPR Live surfaced during the mid-2010s. His opening EP, the early 2017 release Coming to You Live, entered the top 15 on the Billboard World Albums chart while also appearing on Korean rankings. The rapper’s inaugural full-length effort, Is Anybody Out There?, reached number five in Korea during 2020, and he advanced one position further the following year on the EP Iite Cool.
DPR Live serves as the performing name of Hong Da-bin, who was born in Seoul and spent part of his childhood in Guam. After fulfilling compulsory military service in South Korea, he abandoned college plans to devote himself fully to songwriting and musical growth. He made his introduction with the 2015 single “Till I Die,” then joined forces with Punchnello and additional artists before unveiling Coming to You Live in 2017. That EP attained number 14 on Billboard’s World Albums chart and number 31 in Korea, and it was promoted through a tour carrying the same title. Still in 2017, the next project—a five-track set titled Her—rose to number eight on the World Albums chart and number 24 in Korea.
After releasing several standalone singles, among them “Action!” featuring Gray, he attained number five on the Korean album chart with his first studio album, 2020’s Is Anybody Out There?. His subsequent project, the EP Iite Cool, brought him back inside Korea’s top five during 2021.
