Biography
Ekova emerged as the name for a globally inspired trio after singer/songwriter Dierdre Dubois merged the terms "echo" and "ova" to create it. Operating out of Paris, the lineup centers on Dubois, a Californian transplant, joined by Iranian percussionist Arach Khalatbari, Algerian guitarist and oud player Mehdi Haddab, and French keyboardist Cyrille Dufay, who joined solely to refresh select portions of the debut album. Heaven's Dust wove modern textures and arrangements together with African, Celtic, Indian, and Near Eastern components plus Dubois's distinctive self-created language. France received the album in 1998, and Six Degrees Records brought it to the U.S. in 2000, the same year the label issued the 1999 remix set Soft Breeze & Tsunami Breaks. Early 2001 then brought Space Lullabies and Other Fantasmagore.
