Hailing from the Welsh village of Resolven, the enigmatic El Goodo craft a sound steeped in lush vocal layers, chiming guitars, and brass accents. Taking their name from a track on Big Star’s first album, the group channels a ’60s psychedelic sensibility. Its founding lineup—initially credited without surnames—comprised Jason on vocals, guitar, and keyboards; Pixy on vocals, bass, guitar, and keyboards; Lewis on guitar; Elliott on drums and keyboards; and Matty on vocals and keyboards. Touring companions Super Furry Animals issued the band’s self-titled debut on their Placid Casual imprint in late 2005, with an American release following on Empyrean Records in October 2006. Meticulously assembled, the follow-up Coyote appeared in 2010, again mixed by SFA’s Cian Ciárán and issued jointly by Dell’Orso Records in the U.K. and Grease Records in the United States. For subsequent work the members constructed a 16-track facility stocked with vintage equipment, first housed in a disused cinema and later relocated to Resolven’s Miners’ Welfare Hall. That labor finally surfaced as the September 2017 album By Order of the Moose; by then the musicians elected to list full names, yielding credits for Lewie Sewers on guitar, Jason Jones on guitar and vocals, Pixy Jones on guitars, vocals, and keyboards, Elliott Jones on drums and percussion, Matthew Young on keyboards, and Andrew Cann on bass.
