Biography
Entrain, a jam band originating from Martha's Vineyard, came together in 1993 under the direction of drummer Tom Major. The lineup also features guitarist and lead vocalist Brian Alex, along with Sam Holmstock on conga, djembe, and trombone, bassist Ned "Towering Inferno" Nugent, conga player Hilary Noble, and saxophonist Klem Klimek. This diverse group fuses styles that stretch from funk to klezmer, generating an onstage mixture of ethnic textures and musicological exploration. Although Entrain covers a broader spectrum of genres than most jam bands, its music retains a strong improvisational character. The ensemble's live performances deliver the clearest showcase of its strengths, even as it has issued multiple albums, among them Can U Get It, No Matter What, and 2000's All One.
