Biography
Felicia Temple has always centered her work in soul-infused contemporary R&B, functioning as a singer-songwriter, pianist, and producer whose focus rests on adult-oriented romantic ballads carried by her supple voice. She first reached listeners across the country in 2017 as a contestant on season 12 of The Voice, where she interpreted both vintage doo-wop numbers and current pop material. Earlier independent recordings and guest appearances already existed before that national platform appeared. The Teaneck, New Jersey native assembled her own catalog that comprises the 2017 release The Balancing Act, the paired EPs Bedroom Chronicles and Bedroom Chronicles 2 issued between 2019 and 2021, and the 2024 set Welcome Home, all created while she maintained background vocal duties, overcame carcinoid cancer, and maintained a parallel career in health care.
Growing up in Teaneck, Temple absorbed a comprehensive musical foundation during adolescence from her father, a working musician who took her on the road for performances. She later stepped into the spotlight at New York City rooms including The Village Underground and SOB’s, issued her initial solo tracks, and appeared on recordings by Joe Budden before auditioning for The Voice in 2017. Her blind-audition performance of “All I Could Do Was Cry,” the song associated with Etta James and revisited by Beyoncé for Cadillac Records, secured the attention of coach Alicia Keys, an early and lasting influence. Temple remained on the program long enough to see a commercial recording of that audition piece released, alongside studio versions of the contemporary hits “Titanium” and “Defying Gravity.” In June she issued the six-track EP The Balancing Act on her own, material she had written and tracked while receiving treatment for carcinoid cancer and employed as a registered nurse.
Temple waited until February 2019 to deliver the follow-up EP Bedroom Chronicles, yet she stayed active as a featured performer and supporting vocalist, most prominently alongside Deborah Cox. In March 2020 she was touring Europe with An Evening with Whitney Houston: The Whitney Houston Hologram Tour when pandemic-related restrictions forced an abrupt return to the United States. Although she had devoted herself to music on a full-time basis since the prior year, Temple resumed nursing duties in the intensive-care unit at Holy Name Medical Center in her hometown and spoke as a representative of frontline workers during the worldwide broadcast of One World: Together at Home. By year’s end she resumed recording, releasing the single “Bomb Love” in October. “How You Do That” appeared in 2021 ahead of Bedroom Chronicles 2, which arrived that July. Throughout 2022 and 2023 she put out several singles, among them the atmospheric house cut “Touch.” Her fourth EP, Welcome Home, reached audiences in June 2024.
